How jobs are ranked on Jwala Jobs.

No mystery algorithm. Three tiers, one freshness signal, and a small relevance boost when you search. That's it.

Tier 1Pinned

#1

A single job can be pinned to the very top of every list, every search, every category. Reserved for high-priority partner roles.

Tier 2Featured

Top of the list

Verified employers can mark a job as featured. Featured jobs appear first across the homepage, jobs list, search results, categories and city pages — and get a slight boost in keyword search relevance.

Tier 3Standard

Newest first

All other active listings are ordered by recency — the freshest jobs surface first, so seekers don't waste time on stale postings.

The exact sort order

  1. Pinned jobs first (max one at any time).
  2. Then Featured jobs.
  3. When you've set a location, jobs are grouped by distance (0–10 km > 10–25 km > 25–50 km > further).
  4. Within each group, newest first.

On keyword searches we additionally boost Featured listings that match your query so verified roles don't get buried.

Location & distance

When an employer posts a job, we geocode the address into map coordinates using OpenStreetMap. That lets us answer "show me jobs within 25 km of Pokhara" without you having to scroll through irrelevant cities.

How we figure out where you are — in this order:

  1. The city you typed into the search.
  2. Your browser's location (asked once, with permission).
  3. An approximate location from your IP address.
  4. Nothing — we just show all jobs.

Remote jobs are tagged separately. They surface in any location search (so you don't miss them) and rank by Featured + recency only — distance doesn't apply. Use the "Remote only" toggle on the jobs page to see only remote roles.

We never sell your location or share it with employers. It stays in your browser.

What we never do

  • No hidden paid placement outside Featured / Pinned.
  • No personal-data-based ranking. Same list for everyone.
  • No bumping closed or expired jobs back to the top.

What employers can buy

  • Featured — top placement + flame badge across the site.
  • Pinned — guaranteed #1 spot, limited to one role at a time.
  • That is the entire menu. No dark patterns.
